[If there's one thing Adstringendum is good at, it's yanking people around. Where Horst had been laughing and giddy the night before, he's...well, not now.]

Mina was sent home. I'm sure those of you who knew here are aware, but....

[But he personally checked everywhere she could possibly have gone. Just in case. Hope springs eternal, they say.

As he shuts off the feed, there's the faint sound of something German-sounding. Or maybe it was just static.]

Is that what this is going to be then? [He has to ask. He doesn't want to, but he has to.]

[Horst makes a soft sound, not sure if he ought to indulge machismo and move away. He doesn't.]

I'm glad she'll have Akira where she is.

[She's surprised by his reaction and the confusion - and nervousness? - she senses from him. She shrugs.] Well I wouldn't know. I wasn't really myself during that week, remember? It's just a feeling that I get. That there's less bickering between you too... But I certainly didn't mean it as a bad thing, you know. [She gives him a small reassuring smile.]

Of course. Just you and I? [She shifts slightly and it's clear her eyes are struggling to stay open but she shifts again taking a deep breath to stay up.] Mmn, do you have a favorite?

[He shakes his head]

No, no it's not bad. I just wondered how much you could tell--

[He winces, rubs his jaw]

I'm not supposed to talk about it I think.

[Al's glad that he doesn't. Touching always helps. Horst smells a bit like booze, but it's familiar.]

Akira?

[Horst is quiet a moment, because he has no idea how to answer.]

It depends.

Mm.

[He considers the area for a moment.]

.. This isn't going to work.

I already told you I don't pry.

[Although she's not sure he knows himself.]

Then don't. This is between Cloud and you. There are also things between you and me that I wouldn't want you to talk about with anyone else.

It's good if you spend tomorrow night with him. [She smirks.] It wouldn't be fair if I was the only one who had to deal with a drunk vampire after all.

[Horst looks around, too drunk to consider interior decorating]

You're right. You need a fishbowl.

Her fiancé.

[He has to lift a hand and set it on Al's other shoulder to steady himself.]

He'll be better for her than I was...I know that.

Go to bed, Horst.

[He's dragging a chair, now, and guarding it as he does. He can carry something on his own.]

On what we want.

[He's silent for a long, long moment. For the longest time, he had thought what he wanted was Rei. But it had ended badly, crashed and burned spectacularly. He wasn't sure he could jump into something else right away.]

Guess we'll find out when you get here.

I know you don't. It's why I can talk to you.

[He yawns, fangs briefly visible in the dim light, and then he rubs his eyes.]

What do you not want me to talk about with other people? [Not that he talks about anything important to him to anyone but her, anyway, but he likes to know just in case.]

Can't, I have to go see my friends. Booze.

[He looks around, slowly examining the new lab.]

I think Herr Snape has some beakers.

[Al's eyes blink a little wide at that, and he shifts to look at Horst's face. Then, he breaks into a little, hapless smile.]

Oh, come on. You're not half bad.

[And Horst...well, his relationship just barely ended, not that he was any sort of honorable boyfriend while it had lasted.

His frown is skeptical.]

You'd prefer to discuss it in person?

[He shakes his head sharply]

You don't know that. You're my friend....

I wasn't good to her, Al. Cheated on her.

[That's the other issue, Horst. He'd expect you to be faithful. He's pretty sure you couldn't handle that.]

Wouldn't you?

I'll ask to borrow some, then.

[AKA charge into his lab and take them. He rights the chair, drums his fingers against the pad of paper on the table.

The pad of paper that is, currently, his only equipment.]

You slept in a trunk before. That room must be more comfortable.

It might complicate things, Cloud. [How much 'talking' do you think will get done if neither of them wants to talk about it?]

I can't do something like what Mina wanted. Not right now. But I'm open to...other things.

[Al falls silently and then rests his mouth against Horst's hairline, still stroking his hair back. Maybe he misjudged how tipsy and/or drunk Horst is.]

That wasn't good, no. But the point of mistakes is to grow up a bit, isn't it?

[He rubs his thumb against the back of his neck.]

You have a good heart. I wouldn't care so much about you if you didn't.

Well, for instance, that I allow you to come here and sleep over. I'm fine with Cloud, Alice and Hinata knowing but I wouldn't want just anyone to know.

Same goes for me letting you feed off me.

As for everything I told you about my past, my father, my teammates and the Prophecy about my birthday, I'd rather you don't tell anyone about it. It's only fair that I get to be the one to decide who I want to tell those things to, right?

[She pauses.] And of course, there's the bond. That's between us. No one needs to know.
