[Horst has been up late playing around with the PCD, trying to figure out more of it. But he looks exhausted, and not just because he's tried to stay up.

He puts his hand on the door of his makeshift bedroom, but decides at the last minute not to open it; the sun's still up. Why is it still up?]

[Horst has nodded along in agreement, mouthing the suggestions to help himself remember them better. He stops abruptly after that last one, though]

...you have to do the blood thing?

[Yuca doesn't look terribly put-out by that.]

We used to have these treaties with the local vampires. A few volunteers allowed themselves to be fed on, and in exchange, they weren't hurt more than necessary and everyone else stayed safe.

Hah, well, I've never thought of it that way but yes. I can eat other things but they don't really help.

[Johannes would prefer that to Horst feeding on him, and he reluctantly nods] Do you know any of the volunteers...?

I remember that Alphonse did, but I think that was under special circumstances. Riza, maybe?

[He shrugs.]

I wouldn't mind, but it's really up to you.

[It takes him a long, long time to finally answer] I'd prefer someone I know. Especially since this isn't...my 'home'.

Just let me know. I was planning to visit you anyway, to at least give you something to do while you waited.

...In that case, I wouldn't mind some company sooner than later.

Is there anything you'd like me to bring? I don't really have cards, but I made a rather primitive chess set awhile back.

[It's a lot less creepy on his end to think of it that way]

Alright. I'll see what I can do. [He laughs, lightheartedly.] You know, all of my experiences, and I've never been bitten by a vampire. Bled to death, had my carotid artery cut, been bitten by a rather crazy person- I'm actually looking forward to a new experience. So don't feel bad.

[Only Yuca can sound happy while talking about bleeding out] Oh it's very nice, I hear. Much better than being burned to death, but not quite as nice as being stabbed.

Well, I've had both happen, so I think I can be the judge of that.

[His expression softens, but he's not one for pity and he doesn't backpedal] I'm sure this will be much better. Perhaps I'm biased, though.

[He laughs.]

And I'd rather not be the one to send you off to the Animus' hands. They put the sun up permanently, they're clearly a bunch of sociopathic bastards.

[Nonchalant handwave.] They take something from you and plop you right back down like nothing ever happened. I don't even remember the week I was gone.

How do you know what they take...?

You just find out, I suppose. Sometimes- like if they take a memory- you never know. They don't exactly leave a friendly note.

[Horst nods slightly] Fair enough.

I can come over tomorrow- Break has offered to watch Rain for a bit. Would that be alright?

Yes, I'd like that. Time doesn't matter, come when you can.

And--who's Break? I don't think I've met him...her?

Xerxes Break is my- acquaintance, I suppose? We were friends, but we had a bit of a falling out.

[Namely, when Yuca turned him over to be vivisected out of boredom.]

With Rain's arrival though, he's been pleasant, and I know he'd never hurt him.

[Someday Horst will ask himself why he gets so very attached to people like Yuca and Johannes. Seriously, man.]
